Golden Aspen Cash Rally
September
Every September the Mountain Village of Ruidoso, New Mexico roars to life with the arrival of 40,000 bikers. This annual event has grown over the years to become one of the favorite rallys for Riders from all over the world. Folks come from Europe, Canada, Mexico, Minnisota and of course Texas! Ruidoso offers riding opportunities that are just not found anywhere else on the planet. Scenic and Historical best describes the area. Ruidoso is located in the heart of Lincoln County, which was once the home of both the Famous and Infamous. Characters such as Billy the Kid, Sheriff Pat Garrett, Governor Lew Wallace, Kit Carson and a host of old west outlaws once rode the same trails that visiting bikers take to drop in on Old Lincoln, White Oaks, Capitan, Carrizozo and other New Mexican towns that survived those tumultuous times when the six gun ruled the day. These stops provide great day ride destinations and a handy itinerary can be found under the "Day Trips" button.

FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS
RUIDOSO
THANKSGIVING THROUGH NEW YEARS
As the dying glow of winters sun disappears behind the Peaks of Sierra Blanca, as though extinguished by the snow blanketing the horizon, the suggestion of a million points of dazzling light emerge from deep in the valley below. And as darkness overtakes the remnants of day, the Village nestled cozy and warm is charged with a celebration of electric color. This is Thanksgiving eve, November 24th, the time of year when Ruidosos Festival of Lights is renewed with this spectacular winter tradition. The avenues, shops, lodges and homes of Ruidoso are adorned with thousands of strings of glowing crystals bathing the night in a rainbow of illumination hailing the coming of winters solstice. Venturing into the night on December 2nd Ruidosos citizenry and friends will join together for the annual Christmas in the Park festivities and Tree Lighting. Then they will all come together again on December 11th for the Electric Light Parade featuring floats, marching bands, drill teams and laughing children all streaming through Ruidosos lit up Mid Town creating a spectacle reminiscent of a Norman Rockwell Christmas. Of course, the Jolly old fellow himself and some of his elves always take time from their hectic schedule to join in the fun and make an appearance in the Festival of Lights parade. As the Village settles into the holiday season the valleys and canyons of Ruidoso will continue to glow. And as evenings fall on this Christmas wonderland visitors seeking the perfect Mountain holiday will enjoy the enchantment of a million points of electric color sparkling with the warmth and joy that is Ruidosos Festival of Lights.

Ruidoso is located amidst a land of wonders. Mountains, rivers, tall pines and Aspens combine to cool the Ruidoso valley and offer spectacular delights to the senses. The majesty of a mountain peak dusted with the color of the rising sun or the serenity of a river meandering through the forest delivers a calming and restorative effect that continues to draw us back to this magical place time and again.
As the days freshen and we feel the coming of fall something wonderous occurs in nature. The pallet of summer surrenders its bright greens and blues and yellows to hues of gold and orange and red. Flowers loose their blossoms and retreat into the earth to await another spring. Ground cover steels itself for the coming of shorter days and cold nights. And the Aspens burst into vivid
Colors that startle and enchant the imagination. Pools of color are spattered over the mountain sides with creative abandon heralding the season of harvest. This is a time of spectacular vistas, pleasant days and relaxed evenings in Ruidoso.

Shown Below: Smokey Bear Historical Park & Gift Shop...Every year, celebrate "Smokey Bear Days" in Capitan, New Mexico
Interesting Note: In 1952 Steve Nelson and Jack Rollins wrote the anthem that would cause a debate among Smokey enthusiasts for the next several decades. In order to maintain the correct rhythm, the writers added a "the" between "Smokey" and "Bear." As testament to the song's popularity, Smokey Bear became known as "Smokey The Bear" to many adoring fans, but in actuality his name never changed, and he is still known correctly as Smokey Bear.
