RUIDOSO CARVERS RUIDOSO NEW MEXICO
INTRODUCTION
questions@goruidoso.com/CARVERS

Welcome to our first ever Ruidoso, New Mexico Carvers web site. We are very excited about taking our program to the next level. For three years we have operated out of “Grizzly’s Bears” in Ruidoso, New Mexico, but recently we have consolidated with the Lincoln County Lodgers Association www.goruidoso.com/lcla to make this event one that will gain national attention.

Note: Visit www.goruidoso.com to see what Ruidoso, New Mexico is all about. If you’ve never been to this Mountain community then you are in for a wonderful surprise!

June 18th and 19th marks our fourth annual Grizzly’s Ruidoso Carvers Challenge in Ruidoso, New Mexico. This event raises money for the “Make A Wish” Foundation and we are proud that we have succeeded in helping so many sick kids live out their fantasies over the past three years.

Grizzly’s Ruidoso Carvers Challenge is a two-day event that traditionally attracts local carvers, but is open to all comers. ‘Grizz’ supplies the logs and the BBQ and the carvers are encouraged to bring their work to sell. The carvings done for the competition are auctioned off and the proceeds given to the “Make A Wish” Foundation. Prizes for this year's event are expected to include chain saws, cash and give-aways. Welcome packages are given to each competitor and a Grizzly’s Ruidoso Carvers Challenge shirt.

Note: The crowds are really growing for this event and next year we will have to move to a larger location.

An added attraction this year is the Carvers Safari Challenge. The Safari has a prize purse for the Carvers of $1000. Here’s how it works:

1) Each competitor donates a piece of work approximately 3 to 4-feet tall which he brings with him. Preferably an animal of some sort.

2) Business Sponsors buy into the program with a cash donation and one of the donated carvings is placed on that business site.

3) The piece is named and a name card is hung from the donated piece.

4) Safari maps are sold to contestants for $5 and each contestant has to visit each of the listed locations to find the name of the donated piece. They then enter the piece’s name next to the appropriate sponsor.

5) Once the Safari map is complete, the contestants will fill in the spaces asking for their first three choices for the “Best of Safari” among the donated pieces.

6) The maps will then be turned in at Grizzly’s before Sunday noon where they will be checked and the best carver choices section detached. They will then be drawn from a barrel and each person will win one of the carvings from the Safari list.

7) The “Best of Safari” carvers will then be announced and the prizes will extend three deep $500 / $300 / $200.

Note: any carver can donate more than one piece (depending on sponsor availability) and have a chance to win the entire $1000.

We are very excited about this new event as it gives the public a chance to interact with the carvers work and better appreciate the art form. Please try to make it to our event this year or watch for next year's announcement. We promise. Ruidoso, New Mexico is a wonderful place to spend a couple of days doing what you love!
